Review of Dead and Buried (2006) by Rev. R — 27 Feb 2004
I wanted to like it. I remembered it fondly from my childhood. I remember thinking it was exceedingly brutal and gruesome when I was 12. Sadly, memory tends to embellish, yes?
There was one great big plot hole behind the actual thrust of the story, which I kept hoping they'd fill by the end, but they didn't. That was the thing that really hurt my enjoyment. There were other smaller plot holes throughout, too, but I might have been able to look past them if they had been the only ones.
The movie was also slightly harmed by the studio's requirement for gratuitous gore. One gore effect (which was done after Stan Winston and company had left the shoot) was exceptionally bad.
It's too bad Gary Sherman wasn't allowed to make it darkly comedic as he had originally intended. It could have been so much better.
