Review of Dead & Buried (1981) by Kat S — 23 Jun 2010
An attempt at making a more classy old-fashioned kind-of horror film. They almost succeed. The storyline is elusive and the constant mist shrouds the images making everything seem a little unclear - which is effective in creating an atmosphere.
The acting is above average but sadly it all feels a little derivative of Wicker Man, Body Snatchers, etc. Still, the main reasons to see this film are the ground-breaking and exceptional effects by a very young Stan Winston.
(The puppet in the hospital bed is totally convincing.) They're the reason the film was banned and the money shots still hold up today.
