Review of Dead Again (1991) by Barnaby E — 09 Mar 2009
Almost like a spoof of Hitchcock, though played perfectly straight, this flashback thriller has a neat concept and some strong performances from all concerned. The 'golden couple' of acting, when they were still married, are strong in dual performances, Robin Williams delivers an uncredited, sombre and restrained cameo, and Andy Garcia is full of reptillian charm.
Stealing the show is Derek Jacobi as a psychic Mummy's boy, who unlocks the secret of the past. The ending is gloriously absurd, which - if you're not in the mood - can easily tip over into unintentional comedy.
However, it's a solid film, with solid performances and decent stab (excuse the pun) at an old-fashioned Hitchcock suspense thriller for the early 1990's.
