Review of Dead Again (1991) by Zane T — 13 May 2011
The plot line is rather thin with the Theory of the Most Irrelevant Character being the villain and I don't believe a private eye would let an amnesiac live with him even if was a woman and if so, she wouldn't do it.
But the style of this movie is what keeps it enjoyable as a nod to the 1940's film noir. The ending is rather hammed up, but the style keeps it going. Kenneth Branagh Amercian accent is one of the books.
You'd never believe he was from England. Same for Emma Thompson. Robin Williams has a nice glorified cameo as a disgraced psychiatrist turned grocery butcher and Andy Garcia has a nice role as a writer who smokes too much and even uses his trache ring to smoke.
Then there's Wayne Knight as Branagh's buddy. In other movies, he would be the fat pudgy friend, but here he is actually viable to the plot. The plot doesn't really make sense but the idea of people remembering past lives is an interesting idea.
