Review of De-Lovely (2004) by Matthew F — 03 Feb 2005
Why You Should See This Movie:.
The best part of this film is the music presented, composed and produced by the legendary American musician. The music is performed by current pop icons such as Sheryl Crow, Natalie Cole, and Alannis Morissette, and is probably worth watching the show for, even if you are not a big Cole Porter fan.
Why You Shouldn't See This Movie:.
Other than the music and the great performance, this film really failed in a number of ways. When the music was not being performed, the film was so boring and lacked any excitement or momentum, that it felt like the movie took hours and hours to finish. The acting by Kevin Kline was very poor, and the casting of Ashley Judd was a mistake. She is an average actor who is able to succeed in certain roles, but she did an absolutely horrible job at attempting to create an elegant old fashioned woman in love with the legendary Cole Porter. The story was also presented very poorly with nothing terribly interesting or intriguing to keep you involved.
Conclusion:.
If you are willing to sit through a poorly acted and truly boring movie to see some great musical performances, De-Lovely is worth your time. If you aren?t into old music, however, you will be bored to tears.
