Review of De Dana Dan (2009) by Nishant K — 27 Nov 2009
I think this is Priyadarshan's most entertaining work since the most delightful Hungama way back in 2003.
The story gets more and more complicated as the movie progresses and you have to be able to keep track of all the characters to get all the humour.
Speaking of the humour, its largely slapstick with a bit of situational comedy included, but its just like the humour in his other lesser films, Bhagam Bhaag, Hulchul, Maalamaal Weekly etc.
The cast is huge, too many to mention, but all the Priyadarshan regulars are there and most put in solid performances. Shakti Kapoor stands out in that he really needs to call it a day and try his hand at any behind the camera thing, please give it a rest. The women are there mainly as eye candy and they fulfill that responsibility very well!!
A notable omission was JAgdish, who plays the role of the servant Pandu in Hungama, wonder what happened to him.
The music is average, with only one song standing out - Paisa Paisa.
The climax is like most Priyadarshan films where there is general chaos with all kinds of mistaken identities adding to the confusion and everyone running around like headless chickens.
Don't go to see it expecting another Hera Pheri and you wont be disappointed. If only he had kept it 20 minutes shorter it would have got 4 stars from me!!
Its definitely something for the weekend!
