Review of Days of Thunder (1990) by Matthew V — 01 Feb 2011
Days of Thunder is pretty much "Top Gun" only with racecars instead of planes and just as good. Tom Cruise is on his a-game. Robert Duvall is a delight to watch. Nicole Kidman is excellent, not that she had to do much or show much depth.
The chemistry between Duvall and Cruise is outstanding and very believable. The storyline is solid and simple yet effective and entertaining. The races are exhilarating and exciting. The lessons that Cruise's character learn and the changes he goes through are extraordinary.
There are a few dull moments in the film. If you combine that with the simplistic character that Kidman plays, you get a four out five stars film.
