Review of Days of Thunder (1990) by Eoin H — 11 May 2008
A kind of car sequel to Top Gun. Kind of. But without the fun or the action.
This was during the Apprenticeship of Tom Cruise, that period where he sought film roles alongside Oscar worthy father figures (Hoffman, Newman, and here Duvall).
How extraordinary that Chinatown writer Robert Towne penned this Tony Scott film. Im quite certain he was forced to include the sub Top Gun writing of "I'm dropping the hammer!", "No you're not". He does.
This film is also noteworthy for beginning the Cruise/KIdman relationship and its use of an appallingly bad score.
