Review of Days of Thunder (1990) by Shawnte M — 25 Jul 2008
Uber-cheesy, over-the-top, style before substance, remake of "Top Gun" set in the NASCAR circuit is wicked fun on the race-track and uncomfortably awkward and embarassing off it. Tom Cruise is on autopilot for most of it and Nicole Kidman offers no chemistry for her future husband, but Michael Rooker and Cary Elwes are great villains.
Nice photography and a great rock music score by Hans Zimmer are highlights, but the film doesn't offer enough coolness to overcome its lame bits.
