Review of Days of Thunder (1990) by Richard W — 18 Jul 2009

I didn't want to like this. I didn't even want to watch it but I'd had a row with the wife and to keep her happy we watched this (she likes Tom Cruise). I have to qualify the rest of this review by saying I did drink rather a lot of rum which may have clouded my judgement but I have to confess that I now have a new guilty pleasure as I thought this was great.

Yes we've seen it all before many times but rarely as well done as this. Its a typical Tony Scott film, flash and fast paced but IMO this suits the story. Cruise is on top form, but Duvall is even better as the chief mechanic/mentor and there's great support from Michael Rooker, Randy Quaid, John C Reilly and Nicole Kidman.

Put all these elements together and you have a great popcorn flick that is pure entertainment, fun from start to finish and which left me feeling very happy at the end.
