Review of Days of Heaven (1978) by Steven R — 27 Aug 2008
It's so hard to decide what your favorite movie is sometimes, and sometimes "Days of Heaven" wants to jump up and grab the top of my list. The movie is beautiful in its culmination with its sights and soungs.
Malick's direction is beyond superb with shots that captivate the aesthetic brain. The only way this movie could have been better is if Malick somehow was able to allow you to smell what was going on, too.
The scenes are just downright gorgeous. The young Linda Manz is brilliant in her role. As a young director, this movie has a powerful effect on my soul. On one hand, it is a movie that is not easy to put into thought because of its complex nature and complex look at life on earth, fulfillment, God, and thensome.
On the other hand, Sam Shepard is right when he says this movie is a poem that shakes the senses.
