Review of Days of Heaven (1978) by William L — 12 Apr 2009
A great film that captures the majesty of an American landscape as well as any I have seen.
Update:
After rewatching this film I must revise my review and give it the full 5 stars. It really is remarkable and transcendant. Fuck trying too hard to make too much of a plot. Malick delivers an exquisite experience that stands timelessly.
On the outstanding Criterion release, Richard Gere says some very insightful things about the film and why it works. Essentially the point he makes is that films are about visuals, moments, and experience so a film with minimal dialogue can really say a lot, or more accurately, evoke a lot.
The picture is beautiful.
