Review of Days of Heaven (1978) by Rod A — 04 Apr 2010
DAYS OF HEAVEN is a rare motion picture experience. The best way for me to put it is this: Days of Heaven is poetry committed to the screen. Many critics dock the film for not having much of a story, but that's not the point of the film.
The point of the film, as I see it, is that, even hard situations in a simpler time can be seen as beautiful. It is the film's simplicity that makes it so wonderful of an experience. The gorgeous scenery and cinematography are overwhelming, and the deeply human story of a love triangle on a wheat farm in the early 20th century is portrayed very well.
Days of Heaven is a spectacular motion picture that may have to be seen multiple times to be truly appreciated.
