Review of Days of Heaven (1978) by David Z — 17 Mar 2012
It's no secret that I'm a pretty big Malick fan. I subscribe to what I THINK is the overriding world view in his movies and I find his methodology terribly refreshing. Of the three Malick films I've seen ("Tree of Life" and "A New World"), "Days of Heaven" is probably my least favorite of the three, but it's still thought-provoking, surprising, and often incredibly moving (and talk about some great performances! Wow! Who knew Mr.
Gere could be so non-slick!) If the point of this one's a little muddier than some of his later films, if I found occasional irritation in how difficult it was to understand the dialogue, so be it.
This is a journey I was still very grateful to have been a part of.
