Review of Days of Glory (2006) by Ben G — 09 Dec 2007
I would have loved to love it but frankly it was so bad I couldn't stand it. Good things first: the exploration of a subject never shown in a film (the colonial troops in the European armies) and a handful of excellent actors (Sami Bouailla in particular).
On the other hand, the script has no interest whatsoever, the characters are way to stereotypical (Arabs = good, French = bad), the historic accuracy is poor at best? But the worst is that it brings nothing on our way to see the war or to appreciate war epics. There are hundreds of films more pleasant or more interesting to watch than that one, and if it wasn't for it ethnic background, the flick would have gone totally unremarked.
So: a sad bore as well as an heart-breaker.
