Review of Days of Glory (2006) by Bla B — 26 May 2009
This is a very good war flick. I really love war flicks because usually they're based on a real event, and after you watch it, you always want to know more about the subject. in WWII, theres just so many battles, factions, and viewpoints you probably never read or heard about.
This movie is told from the viewpoint of the algerian people who fought for france. in those days, algeria was colonized by the french people. but the people who enlisted had never even been on french soil, never seen the country. yet the fight with their whole being. but one of the major themes is the themes of discrimination. they are racially profiled, belittled, and treated with much less respect than then the euro-french. when u watch it, u start to get kinda pissed because these men died to fight for them.
Anyway I wont say too much. the acting is really good, theres really a good range of actors of different backgrounds and looks. the fighting, although realistic, is not as intense as fights u see in saving private ryan. still, the main focus of the movie is different. you should watch this movie. u'll find a whole new point of WWII you probably never knew.
