Review of Daybreakers (2010) by Desirae M — 18 Apr 2011
Some interesting ideas and absorbing visuals keep this from from being completely victimized by its hokey writing and hackneyed subject-matter. There's an intentional B-movie charm to some of that, but not to the extent that this needed to save it from the brooding moments it wants to be taken seriously. Ultimately its too unfocused in tone and too derivative of what we've repeatedly seen before to make it something at all worth remembering.
There will be a collective who try really hard to turn this into a cult favorite that the rest of us just don't get or don't understand. But it's not going to stick. There's not enough substance here.
