Review of Daybreakers (2010) by Noah E — 20 Jun 2011
A refreshingly plot-heavy twist on the vampire genre. The plot is what made the film, even though the overall resolution was a bit disappointing. Hawke and Neill play off each other to perfection the entirety of the film.
Dafoe was a nice addition. I really can't say enough about how interesting I found the plot of this film. The main annoyance I have with monster genre movies is that they all follow a fairly limited template.
When I find one that breaks out of those bonds, as is done in Daybreakers, it really does strike me well. The large quantities of flying viscera throughout the film are reminiscent of what would happen if one trapped Michael Bay inside a fleshy animal.
Other than that, this is really a quality film.
