This movie is quite possibly one of the most compelling and original takes on the vampire genre and deserves all the praise I can give it. First, it has Willem Defoe, as if you need to say more. His performance and character is my favorite part of the movie.
Sam Neill plays a good part as well, and even Ethan Hawke is dead on as usual. The special effects were well done and not too over the top. I have heard from others that this movie is very gory but I would disagree.
There is a good amount of blood and such, but it is done in a tasteful way without excess. I guess the plot was a little basic, but keep in mind it's just a vampire movie so don't expect some deep, involved 3 hour movie.
