Review of Daybreakers (2010) by Jesse B — 02 Apr 2012
Your typical vampire fare but with an all star cast. Hawke plays the reluctant vampire, while Sam Neil relishes in it.
Some scary stuff, plenty of thrills and spills ( talking about blood of corse ).
I thought this film was ok, I think it was too short and simple, it leads you in really well but doesnt take you very far unfortunately. It doesnt leave any room for a sequal either. This 1 falls somewhere between the action of Blade and the politics of Underworld but pales in comparison to those much superior species.
I liked the ideology they put into this, making it a moral effort, and posing questions of survival, evolution, and humanity.
I also liked Dafoe, and Neil quite a bit, although I would have enjoyed seeing them get a bit more physical , in this type of environment.
The movie was very dark as you'd expect and the story as well but it never strayed from its path towards the light, good focus and straight forward film making kept interest up for the most part.
