Review of Daybreakers (2010) by Bernie S — 08 Jun 2012
The opening scene of this movie really sets the tone...but not a very exciting tone. The concept of a world of vampires who hunt humans for blood farming...very cool, and that a major corporation is behind the cover up.
But overall not much of an exciting movie and not much we haven't seen in a vampire action movie - the way vamps die, the sunlight theory and the creatures vampires turn into if they don't feed.
..hemo-deprivation. I have seen all that in previous vamp movies and/or read it. Not very original. But I will give some good points to this movie...dark, moody...and Willem Dafoe as a vampire/cure survivor.
He is defintely a character actor and he steals the spotlight here. Also the special effects are not bad, exploding vamps, blood splatters...very cool. Overall, if your fan of dark vampire movies (Near Dark, Underworld) then this movie is defintely for you.
