It annoys me when people say 'Oh it's awful because of the terrible things in it'. Ok, don't watch it then. Go watch The Notebook or some crap like that. There are some people that actually enjoy watching torture and mutilation.
Why? Because it takes you out of your comfy little shell for an hour and shows you what people can do. But whatever, maybe I'm just sick in the head but I wouldn't change it for anything. Awesome movie.
