Review of Day of the Woman (1978) by Sean C — 15 Mar 2008
I think people didn't understand this movie. I've read reviews where big time critics said that it makes you sympathize with the rapists. I didn't see that at all. Also, critics have complained about how helpless Camille Keaton's character is .
I disagree completely. Even during the rape scenes at the beginning, she is always fighting these guys every step of the way. People didn't like the fact that a rape scene was shown as it truly would be - awful.
Not sophisticated, not done over by a music score that is supposed to make you feel something, and not in any way erotic. It pulls no punches and doesn't ask for your respect. Which, in fact, is something that I respect highly.
Yes, the acting could have been better. Yes, it's a low budget movie. But I would take this movie over The Accused any day of the week.
