Review of Day of the Woman (1978) by Steve G — 22 Apr 2008
Exploitive with a capital "E". While the film can be read as support for the ultimate female empowerment against and triumph over brutal sexual violence, this feminist undercurrent does not redeem the whole.
Far too much of the film is spent looking and feeling like the worst sort of porn. Just an awful, awful movie. Adding insult to injury, both cast and crew feature way too many Israeli names -- clearly, family and friends of writer and director Meir Zarchi.
Eizeh booshah.
