Review of Day Night Day Night (2006) by Megan D — 14 Jun 2007
Where was all the tension people are talking 'bout? This is one of the dullest films I've ever seen. Totally amateurish. Sure, the concept sounds interesting - an anonymous young woman prepares for a suicide bombing in the heart of NYC - but the execution was wretched.
Watch as she brushes her teeth for 10 minutes! Listen as she chews an egg roll for 5 minutes! Haven't had enough? Good, because she's about to spend 15 minutes eating an apple in Times Square! Every scene is draaaaaaawwwwn out, probably so they could get a (barely) acceptable feature length of 94 minutes.
If you could chop an hour off this thing (and it would NOT be that tough), it could possibly be a provocative and gripping film. Luisa Williams is definitely an intriguing actress. Sadly, her effort and the film's concept are wasted in a most dismaying manner: the drama unfolds so slowly, it becomes an absurdist comedy.
