Review of Day for Night (1973) by Darrell B — 19 Dec 2007
I guess I enjoy movies about making movies, and Day for Night gives you a good feeling how directors like Truffaut operated and felt about their work. It has a lot in common with 8 1/2, though it's closer to a documentary than the Fellini self-portrait.
Though I've only seen a small handful this is one of my favorite of Truffaut's. 8 1/2 I think is the more marvelous piece of cinema, but Day for Night comes across as more plainly in love with the average director's job.
