Review of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) by Ana B — 06 Jan 2015
Accomplished second part of the "Rise of the planet of the apes", it tell us the follow up of advanced chimpanzee Caesar. He has learned to talk and he has been teaching language to fellow apes, he is the leader of an ever growing community leaving in the forest surrounding San Francisco. In the meanwhile humankind has been decimated due to simian flu, the colony that barely survives in the city needs to get to the dam to produce energy; but the dam is in Caesar's land, when a group of men trespass they initiate a quarrel that threatens both species.
The plot and the set up is carefully planned, it would have been easy to fall for clichés, instead we find a movie with a sensible story of trust and betrayal that strikes the right notes, in places it has echoes of plays of Shakespeare and at the end there is a good battle scene which is computer generated but that is believable enough to make us think in that possibility. A really good and entertaining film with good performances by humans and "monkeys".
