Review of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) by Chris G — 10 Jan 2015
When I first heard they were hiring a new director and bringing in a whole new cast for the sequel to my favorite movie of 2011, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, I wrote this movie off. I didn't give it a chance. I thought, "There goes our hope for a new generation's take on the classic tale of Planet of the Apes." Then, I saw the trailers, and they were great, so I started to gain hope for this movie. Then, I saw reviews, and gained even more hope. My expectations rose phenomenally. Then, I saw the movie. Now, some people will say Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is good, great even. And I totally disagree. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is one of the greatest pieces of cinema ever made. PERIOD.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes raises the stakes of this franchise to an entirely new level, just the way a sequel should. With great emotion, a rich background, and tremendous acting and special effects, Dawn is truly what The Empire Strikes Back was to Star Wars and what The Dark Knight was to Batman Begins. My favorite movie of 2014, as well as one of the best sequels, and movies, of all time. 10 out of 5 stars. Yeah, I went there.
