Review of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) by Jim L — 26 Jan 2015
After Rise of the planet of the apes I knew I was bound to see any further installations to this series as Rise was a big surprise hit for me. Fast forward now to Dawn of the planet of the apes. I must say that the series is really moving in an impressive manner.
Almost everything about this film is an improvement from the first, which is saying a lot. The story is a great and logical continuation from the first, the acting/cast is amazing on all parts but particularly in our returning protagonist, Caesar, played by Andy Serkis, who in my opinion is an extremely underrated actor and deserves an Oscar.
The effects are absolutely unbelievably incredible this time around. There was one point where the camera zoomed in to Caesar's eyes almost in an eyeball to eyeball perspective and if I hadn't already known it was CGI, I would have had difficulty believing it was.
The emotion throughout is well placed and extremely effective, especially in the area of the interactions of the apes within the film. All in all I'd say this is easily one of the best films from 2014 and it's well worth adding to your home collection.
