Review of Dawn of the Dead (2004) by Richard R — 22 Aug 2013
I saw the original Dawn of the Dead and I never really saw the big deal about it. It wasn't scary, it was a bit sick and overall I felt a bit bored. Then there comes the remake, amped up with not only blood-filled gore and violence but with a surprising amount of humour, good pacing and some surprises along the way.
I may be alone in this but the fast zombies who find it far easier to chase you down and rip your insides out are far scarier than a slow moving zombie who you could easily outrun in the real, sensible world.
Throw on top of that a good soundtrack and a bit of preaching about the state of humanity in the face of a crisis and you have overall a very slick, smart film. Shame it didn't get the true sequel it deserved.
