Review of Dawn of the Dead (2004) by Samuel H — 16 Apr 2015
The remake of Dawn of the Dead is a very risky thing to do for the original as it is a classic, and it could've easily been a disaster. With some terrific directing by first time Zack Snyder and a really good script by James Gunn, it surprised a lot of people, including me.
The performances are really good which I'm glad to see in a remake, and the effects look really good. The characters are decent, but I wish to know more about other characters too. It has some funny moments, and the pacing does give a lot of energy which is interesting.
Another problem I had is that the jump scares weren't effective and it kind of seem predictable too. It's actually really cool for Zack Snyder to make this as his debut movie, and consider that this is a remake and a great one, it really step up his career.
