Review of David Brent: Life on the Road (2016) by Tom B — 27 Aug 2016

After the wild success of The Office, this film always had a tough act to follow- and there's a temptation to judge the film based on how it compares with the original series. Some of the jokes are recycled, Gervais' Brent does come across at times a bit overdone and artistically tired, and that brilliant streak of originality which made The Office so fantastic has been somewhat lost.

However, there's still some brilliant writing, a strong and amusing performance from Gervias, and an even stronger performance from Doc Brown. Having David Brent on my screen again after 13 years also evoked a comforting sense of nostalgia.

It's not as good as before, but it was never going to be. Overall, an enjoyable and jovial watch.
