Review of David Brent: Life on the Road (2016) by Jon-Joseph F — 29 Aug 2016
If I was to be asked what my Top 20 comedies were David Brent Life of the Road would be included certainly. I stuggle to recall a film in which left me full of such joy & genuine happiness. It was brilliant.
The Mockumentary style in this film is good, however I do feel that the Mockumentary feel was lost at times in this film but was more or less consistent. It is also used intelligently when zooming or panning for laugher.... classic comedy.
The cast was fun, though I fail to remember most names. Though to me this only solidifies the this is Brent's film & he usually grasps as much attention as possible due to him as a character.
Gervais' overall performance was as expected, top notch hilarious & even sad to watch at times. There is a definitive underline of sadness for the audience as we watch him try hard to prove he can do something different and stand out, live his dream. He actally almost cried at times which was suprising but refreshing.
The songs were not only hilarious but also used throughout the film to keep the pace fast but absorbable. Plus, his performance on stage not only made me wince.... but wince with joy!
In conclusion, if you like the Office you will LOVE this film. It does heaps of justice to the original series & deserves to put this character to bed on the BIG screen.
Thanks for the laughs Brent.
