Review of Dave (1993) by Lisa C — 19 Aug 2007
I saw this when I was pretty young, probably nine or so. I remember laughing and enjoying certain parts. It was on TV last night, and I couldn't resist wondering what I'd think of it now, so I watched it.
I loved it. It's not the best acted or most realistic movie ever made, but there are some excellent jabs at the political system that are very, very relevant. It's pleasantly enjoyable with bad guys to hate and good guys to root for, and all very idealistic.
If we could have a Dave Kovic in office, we'd all be a bit better off. I especially liked the scene where he hijacks a meeting with the cabinet to talk about the budget, and he starts hacking away at expenditures to make room for a kids shelter.
The Movie Secretary of Commerce is explaining this 47 million dollar federally financed advertising campaign to make people feel more satisfied with their American-made cars, when Dave delivers this line, "I don't want to tell some eight-year-old kid he's gotta sleep in the street because we want people to feel better about their car.
Do you want to tell them that?" Excellent point. Excellent movie.
