Review of Dave (1993) by Mike D — 18 Oct 2007
As I was talking to people about political movies to show to my students, someone brought up the movie Dave. Kevin Klein is a presidential impersonator who gets to take over for a few months.
It was cute in a nerdy political love story sort of way. I love how movies can show the president as an all powerful man one minute, and a puppet the next. The truth is that Dave would have never gotten to do half the things he did. The president doesn't have the power. He is just a puppet. Why do you think they let Bush talk? He can't screw things up. They only give him the info that he needs at a certain event. Harmless because he can always feel the strings.
This movie was okay for a guy who likes politics sitting at home on a Thursday night with his wife when nothing is on TV. It made me smile. It didn't change my life.
