Review of Dave (1993) by Fiona H — 28 Dec 2012
An intelligent, bittersweet, touching, funny and feelgood comedy from Ivan Reitman that succeeds thanks to Kevin Kline's charming performance as the lovable titlular character whose canny resemblance to the President (played again by the eye-popping versatile Kline) works a treat when the President suffers a stroke, leading to Dave having to live a life pretending to be the actual President.
The result is a witty adventure that combines romantic comedy with political satire and has the cast consisting of Kline, Sigourney Weaver, Frank Langella and Ving Rhames to thank for creating a measure of conviction in a film that appears to have a risky premise, but ultimately ends as a memorable viewing that is the sort of film that if you see on the telly, you cant help but watch, no matter how many times its been viewed.
