Review of Date Night (2010) by David G — 16 Aug 2011
A repressed New Jersey couple (Steve Carell & Tina Fey) who are undergoing a rocky patch in their marriage get mistaken for a couple of small time blackmailers while out on a "date night" and end up running for their lives across New York City with a couple of goons in hot pursuit.
With the police seemingly in on it, our heroes are on their own as they botch their way to the truth. There are few - well, zero - surprises with the story and to be honest it's not even that funny (I'm not a fan of either of the leads) but there is a certain amount of enjoyment to be had seeing such a hapless couple fumble their way through a situation that is way over their heads and the supporting cast is fantastic with even minor characters being played by the likes of Mark Wahlberg, Common, Mark Ruffalo, James Franco, Mila Kunis, Kristen Wiig, Ray Liotta, William Fichtner and Taraji P.
Henson.
