Review of Date Night (2010) by ?Irin T — 04 Dec 2011
Obviously a movie geared towards middle-aged marries couples, but even a young bachelor such as myself could appreciate the subtleties and comedy presented in Date Night. Steve Carell and Tina Fey really do share rather exceptional chemistry in this movie, playing off each other to perfection as an aging middle-aged couple stuck in the same old routine, wondering if their present lives are really everything they had hoped and dreamed they would be.
Carell really turns in a rather extraordinary individual performance (he just belongs in these roles), and that car chase scene there at the end was just awesome on so many levels. The plot was beyond ridiculous, a number of the jokes made me inwardly (and occasionally outwardly) groan, and after the scarring that occurred during New Moon and bloody Taylor Lautner, I did not need to repeatedly be forced to stare at a shirtless Marky Mark Wahlberg.
But Date Night was just a fun film, and I came away with a smile on my face.
