Review of Date Night (2010) by Bud B — 09 Jun 2012
Put your junk in reverse.
A middle aged couple in New York decides to spice up their marital life with a little adventure and in doing so suffer a case of mistaken identity. They steal a seat in a restaurant that belonged to a couple that was supposed to make a drop for a local gangster. Now they are wanted and mistaken for having the gangster's stolen goods. Can the couple overcome this tragedy and resolve the issues?
"They stabbed a chicken nugget with a sharpie. These are bad people.".
Shawn Levy, director of Night at the Museum 1 & 2, Real Steel, The Pink Panther, Cheaper by the Dozen, and Big Fat Liar, delivers Date Night. The storyline for this picture is fairly standard for the genre with a few fantastic lines sprinkled throughout. The acting is fairly appropriate for the genre and the cast delivers above average performances. The cast includes Steve Carrell, Tina Fey, Mark Wahlberg, Common, Mila Kunis, Mark Ruffalo, and James Franco.
"Why don't you zip your vagina, Raymond Burr?".
Date Night was a movie that was recommended based on the brand of comedy. I did think there were some marvelous sequences, and I adored the numerous cameos, but there were so many sequences that were frustrating and/or ridiculous that could have been done better. I would say the last third of the film wasn't that funny but the first two-thirds was a 7 or 8. Overall, this is worth viewing but not worth adding to your dvd collection.
"Everybody has gross sex fantasies.".
Grade: C+.
