Review of Date Night (2010) by Jordan A — 21 Jul 2012
Date Night is about Tina Fey and Steve Carell getting into a big mess about they steal someone else's reservations at a fancy restaurant. Since two bad cops think that Fey and Carell are actually the couple that made the reservations, they try to force them to hand over a flash drive. They lose the flash drive after a car chase, and then confront everyone involved with the flash drive. Then everyone gets arrested except for the protagonists, who live happily ever after or something.
Though I liked the actors in this movie, none of the characters were particularly interesting or funny. There was one good joke about holding a gun sideways, but otherwise, nothing was funny. The bad comedy just didn't blend in with the confusing action. The characters didn't blend in with the plot either; they were just shoved in there. The constant change of pace was also irritating. In one scene, they're frantically running away from people that are trying to murder them, but then they decide to just spend fifteen minutes sitting down and talking about their love life. Even when they decide to keep running, they seem to be pretty calm about it. The movie continues to move from fast, confusing action sequences to boring dialogue.
Date Night is a dull movie lacking good comedy or action. Don't watch it.
