Review of Date Night (2010) by This G — 31 May 2013
Date Night is the tale of a boring couple from New Jersey who decide to have a fun night in New York City. However their night turns into a nightmare when they steal some other couples' reservations at a restaurant. There they are mistaken as people who are trying to blackmail a mob boss. One thing leads to another and they find themselves in a pig conspiracy involving corrupt cops and politicians. The Story is nothing groundbreaking, however the chemistry between Tina Fey and Steve Carrell is amazing. Both of these actors are some of the funniest people around and having them together in this was a stroke of genius.
There are also hilarious scenes featuring a shirtless Mark Whalberg as a security expert who tries to help Fey and Carrell's characters. Mila Kunis and James Franco are also funny in their short scene here, playing a ridiculous pair of thieves. One of my problems in this film is that some of the other supporting characters are not really given anything to do, or any chances to be funny.
That being said, the positives of this film outweigh the few negatives. Great comedy.
