Review of Date Night (2010) by Jason R — 19 Jun 2013
Tina Fey has great comedic timing. Steve Carell as well. Thats the saving grace of this movie. Both of these performers are great on their own respective television shows so it only makes sense that they would be great together in a full-length feature.
Thats not entirely true. The movie has its fun moments and Fey and Carell go well together and show a good on screen vibe. They are not any part of the problem in this picture. The story seems to be the trouble.
It is not an overly strong story and it feels strange watching everything unfold in such a brief time (indeed over the course of one date night). However, that is not a deterrent for watching these two together.
There are laughs and if you are a fan of either of their work on NBC then you will likely automatically feel a connection to their characters even though they are not really much like their respective TV characters.
3 stars on a good day and worth at least one view.
