Review of Das Boot (1981) by Gabriel P — 18 Jul 2008
Das Boot, although a war movie, exudes n anti-war message throughout the entire showing. Being an avid U-Boot history buff, this movie is historically accurate in its portrayal of U-Boot operations. Following the crew of U-96 (a German submarine during WW2), Das Boot explores the psychological aspects of warfare, and (surprise, surprise) shows that even some Nazi's (devoted or otherwise) were appalled by Hitler, Goering, Doenitz and other leaders of the Third Reich, and were rather just ordinary men defending their families and homeland.
Even if you aren't a fan of war flicks, this movie will leave you breathless. My favorite movie of all time...Number 1! Ich liebe das Boot!
