Review of Das Boot (1981) by Nicolas L — 22 Aug 2008
Wow. In spite of its 3.5 hour run time, this movie manages to keep a firm grip on my attention. It's pretty effective in evoking the submarine's claustrophobic interior, and giving off that feel that any one of these characters could die at any moment.
The ending's a bit of a downer, but then again, you'll probably expect a down ending after the opening text crawl saying that 3/4 of the U-Boat crews didn't survive.
