Review of Das Boot (1981) by Richard D — 13 Feb 2015
An amazing film. It's really a film about the specifics of doing an insanely dangerous job. The fact that it's set in a German U-Boat removes it from the context of victory and patriotism that would be invoked by watching the crew of an American submarine.
I watched the 210 minute director's cut, and it's a film that really benefits from the longer running time. It gives it an almost documentary quality.
