Review of Das Boot (1981) by Tomasan — 14 Jan 2010
Cant believe I forgot to review Das Boot! well, here's my review. Das Boot is an epic motion picture that deserves many awards because of its spectacular realism, grand direction and unique acting and soundtrack.
The version I watched was all subtitled, but it still made for a great movie! Some parts were very tense as the crew steadily tries to stay quiet while submerged and in the midst of battle. The story is set in 1942 as German subs engage the English in the 'Battle of the Atlantic'.
Many claustrophobic shots really capture the realism of being on a german U-boat or submarine. Lead actor Jürgen Prochnow displays awesome acting as the esteemed captain of the Das Boot. Overall, Das Boot is as good or better than any of the newer submarine based motion pictures such as 'Hunt for Red October', 'U-571', or 'Crimson Tide'.
It is a bit older and outdated but if you have a true passion for cinema and can endure 3 1/2 hours, I recommend watching the one and only: Das Boot!
