(1981) Das Boot.
(In German with English subtitles).
WAR/ DRAMA.
One of the greatest films about submarine confinements and unity I had ever seen, especially against impossible odds. Also a plus are the realism when you see the beards and the sweat when you see some of the crews faces- this is what it means to have true dedication to a film! Based on an actual incident written by Lothar G. Buchheim which was originally a 5 hour mini-series shown on German television but was shortened and rereleased on theatres at 225 minutes called the 'directors cut' which is the only version I saw and believed it to be just as effective! The film was so well received that the cast was called back to redubbed voices for English speaking audiences in which I have no interest in seeing! This film was also the basis for other films that followed such as "The Abyss" and "U- 571"!
Masterpiece.
4 out of 4.
