Review of Das Boot (1981) by Jonathan P — 10 Mar 2011

At times intense, at times a bit slow, Das Boot is a good movie that receives a bit of excessive praise. Das Boot is good but a bit long and tends to drag a bit. Realistic acting and intense circumstances resurrect some of the slow parts but the movie doesn't really resonate as strongly as it could with the viewers.

Superb acting and a storyline that is difficult for patriotic Americans to swallow (sympathy for the enemy...an enemy who let American sailors drown nonetheless), make for a compelling and thought provoking inner battle but still Das Boot seems to receive an exaggeration of praise.
