Review of Das Boot (1981) by Giovanny T — 18 Jun 2011

I watched the uncut 5 hour version of the film, but I'll admit that I did not watch all of it, I watched about 3 out of 5. I will also admit that I don't have the time or the attention span to watch a five hour film.

I respect the director for releasing the film that he wanted the audience to see. I can also respect the director because he knew what he was doing. The film is very claustrophobic and I thought it did a fantastic job of capturing the emotions of each person on that sub.

Das Boot is a great character study more than anything, I will more than likely watch it again, with no disrespect to the director, 5 hours is just too long, so I will probably watch a different version.
