Review of Darkon (2006) by Matt A — 13 Sep 2007
I was a little confused about the objective of this movie. I think it was trying to say, "Darkon and LARPing gives us confidence and skills we didn't have in the real world. We have fun and we've improved our lives, inside and out of the game.".
Unfortunately, the message that actually came across was, "I'm pretty fucking miserable with my life, but at least I can go hit people with foam swords. I can't fix my real life problems, and why bother, I have Darkon." They made it look like everyone playing was pathetic, and they played it because it was all they had. Is the viewer supposed to sympathize with that, or laugh at them? Because unfortunately, I don't think anyone was laughing with them, as should have been the case.
An interesting movie though, and mostly fun from start to finish, though cutting a good 20 minutes from it would have been grand.
